Warm-Up

Definition:

The first 5-7 minute chunk of a lesson, it connects to the learning objective(s), provides a rationale for the lesson, and helps students engage prior knowledge/preview upcoming content

Best Practice

  • All students contribute to show understanding and learning
  • Explicitly connects to the learning objective(s) and reinforces the relevance of the learning
  • Purposefully incorporates other Principles of Instruction
  • Links to prior learning and/or previews key concepts/vocab with a focus on various levels of questioning/cognitive demand
